Freshers' Week 2010
Freshers' Week at York is also the first week of term, which begins on Monday 11th October 2010. There are tons of events to attend throughout the week, some ran by YUSU for the entire university, and others run by Langwith JCRC especially for you guys! Tickets for all of the events detailed below will be available at www.yusu.org at the start of September, so keep checking to make sure that you don't miss out!
SUNDAY 10th OCTOBER 2010
It's time to pack up your stuff and get travelling as today is MOVE-IN DAY. Get down to the Porters Lodge, sign in and get your keys before being guided to your room by a STYC to get settled in and meet your flatmates. Then, at 5.30pm, your STYCs will take you down to the PROVOST'S WELCOME and DRINKS RECEPTION in L/N/028 before Langwith descends on Fibbers in town where you'll get the opportunity to socialise with fellow Langwithian's. If this doesn't sound like you're cup of tea then don't worry, as your STYCs will happily stay with you in your block for the evening.
MONDAY 11th OCTOBER 2010
Sorry, but no lie-ins today we're afraid as there's a COMPULSORY FIRE TALK at 10.00am in L/N/028. Following this, your STYCs will take you out on a CAMPUS TOUR before leading you back to L/N/028 for 1.15pm where the LANGWITH FAIR awaits you. This is your opportunity to meet the JCRC, sign up to college sports teams, discover RAG and much, much more. In the evening, it's time to put your pokerfaces on as it's VIVA LAS VEGAS NIGHT in The Courtyard and the adjoining L/N/028.
TUESDAY 12th OCTOBER 2010
Don your sports gear and join us for an INTER-BLOCK TOURNAMENT where block rivalry will make itself known. In the evening, it's time for the annual FRESHERS' BAR CRAWL starting in The Courtyard. We'll provide you with Langwith buses to get you to the first stop in town, and then it's off down Micklegate, York's famous bar-ridden street. Everyone on the bar crawl is given a free t-shirt for their graffiti-ing pleasure. The night ends in Club Salvation, the ideal place to cap off what is bound to be a hilarious and memorable (?!) night!
WEDNESDAY 13th OCTOBER 2010
Sore head from last night? Then join us between 11.00am and 1.00pm for the RAG HANGOVER BREAKFAST before sobering up for another INTER-BLOCK TOURNAMENT. Come the evening, it's time to join us in The Courtyard for an OPEN MIC NIGHT where you have the opportunity to put your own spin on the latest chart-toppers.
THURSDAY 14th OCTOBER 2010
Join us at 1.00pm for lunch at FREE FOOD THURSDAY on behalf of the Provost, John Issit. From here, your STYCs will take you into town fancy dress shopping ready for today's main event - CAVE RAVE at Yates'. Whether you turn all prehistoric, cover yourself in neon lights, or go for a mixture of the two, you're guaranteed to have an amazing night!
FRIDAY 15th OCTOBER 2010
An afternoon of activities lies in store beginning with the COLLEGE CHALLENGE and BBQ. Come and show people what your college means to you before taking place in the final INTER-BLOCK TOURNAMENT - tug-of-war! In the evening, we invite you to L/N/028 for a FILM NIGHT before leaving you to get ready for what the weekend has in store.
SATURDAY 16th OCTOBER 2010
The weekend has arrived, so we relinquish the reins on event organisation and hand over to YUSU for the day. More information on their events can be found at www.yusu.org.
SUNDAY 17th OCTOBER 2010
The final day of Freshers' Week is upon us, so it's time to start reenergising your brain cells. Thankfully, THE COURTYARD QUIZ is here to do just that! Join the bar reps at 8.00pm in The Courtyard for what promises to be an entertaining and thought-inducing night. Alternatively, join Cem for the LGBT ICEBREAKER before preparing yourself for the weeks ahead.
