Langwith Welfare

Welfare support is a high priority within the Students' Union at York, with a wealth of information available online at www.yusu.org/welfare Langwith College has its own college welfare team (details of which can be found here) as well as JCRC Welfare reps.

Langwith Welfare Reps deal with welfare issues at the college level and represent such campaigns on the JCRC. Your Welfare Reps are particularly prevalent around Freshers' Week as they help organise the welcome of the new first year intake into the college with their team of STYCs (Second and Third Year Contacts), ensuring people have as few problems as possible as they settle in. If you are a current member of Langwith interested in becoming a STYC for the next batch of Freshers, the Welfare Reps will be recruiting in the Summer term so keep an eye on your college emails!

Drop-ins with this year's Welfare Reps, Andy and Sarah, are held in the Corner Room on a weekly basis throughout term-time. From house-hunting problems to academic issues, exam stresses or anything else that's on your mind, your Welfare Reps are here to listen, provide information and help where they can (and they're known for handing out tea and biscuits too). If you don't wish to visit them in person (or perhaps you just have a quick question you'd like to ask), alternatively just send an email to welfare. We keep everything you say to us strictly confidential, and if we can't help you, the chances are we know who can.

College Tutors work alongside your Welfare Reps (as well as the Provost, Dean, and College Administrator) to address any and all welfare issues you might have. Unlike the Welfare Reps, tutors are postgraduate Langwith students who live in the blocks with you in order to be available 24-7. They have ready access to the staff members of the college, and can work on your behalf to raise issues within the college. Tutors are a good place to go if you have something you don't feel comfortable talking to another student about, or for issues of a more serious nature.
Your tutors for 2010/11 are Anna Shaw, entering her fourth year in Langwith, and Robin Jervis, entering his fifth. They are always happy to have a confidential chat, or to provide any support you need.
