Why Are We Waiting?

Langwith College PhotoThe University has withdrawn support for the YUSU Bar to open in October 2008

This leaves Langwith College without a bar for Freshers' Week 2008, and represents the University's disregard for the will of the students.

The YUSU Langwith Bar project is backed unanimously by Langwith JCRC, Union Senate (complete with representatives from each undergraduate college) and has also been overwhelmingly approved by the student body as a whole through the UGM process. In a referendum held in March, 90% of students supported the project.

Langwith College Photo If the project is undertaken over the Autumn Term, it will cause widespread disruption throughout Langwith College and will effect, in particular, use of the L/028 lecture room and the Lower/JCR area. There will also be a considerable degree of noise pollution for students in A Block, the college's designated quiet block.

We believe that the YUSU bar project is a very realistic project to be undertaken during the summer months of 2008. Langwith College JCRC and YUSU are determined to campaign against the University's decision to delay the progress of the bar development.
